Changing the values for toolkit.zoomManager.zoomValues no longer works. Is there any other way to go about changing your zoom settings?

Changing the values for toolkit.zoomManager.zoomValues no longer works. Is there any other way to go about changing your zoom settings?

Chosen solution

Hi Ben, it seems the zoom levels for a particular window are locked the first time you use zoom in that window. To test your about:config change, either launch a new window (Ctrl+n or right-click a link and Open in a New Window), or restart Firefox.*

* Or you can "tear off" the current tab to its own window by pulling the tab downwards toward the page and releasing it.

Hi bjymc6, the toolkit.zoomManager.zoomValues preference sets the steps for zooming, so normally if you are starting from the default level (100%):

.3,.5,.67,.8,.9,1,1.1,1.2,1.33,1.5,1.7,2,2.4,3
  • the first step up is 1.1 => holding Ctrl and tapping + gives you 110%
  • the first step down is .9 => holding Ctrl and tapping - gives you 90%

Are you looking to change the zoom steps, or something else?

For example, do you want to enlarge everything across all sites (default zoom level), with or without enlarging text in Firefox's toolbar area?

Thanks for replying. I do understand that part of it. It's only that I switched settings to "... .65, .70, .75..." and so on, but my browser keeps using the default zoom settings.

Hi bjymc6, what is the exact value currently?

There is a difference depending on how you zoom:

  • Buttons on the menu, Ctrl+, and Ctrl- should follow the settings in about:config
  • Ctrl + Scroll wheel always uses 10% increments

I've tried the ctrl commands. I think maybe that configuration line just doesn't work anymore. Have you tried it? It's really no big deal anyway. Thanks for your time. Ben

That was stupid of me. A restart was all it needed. You're the best, jscher2000.

I'm glad that worked for you. I forgot that zoom levels are read only once per window per session until you pushed me to test it. :-)
